Transportation

Transportation: Amsterdam -ESB (mini bus service)

_AN_8692-Edit

Transportation of students from Amsterdam is organised by the European School Student Bus Association (ESSB), comprised of volunteer parents. The school is not involved in organising schol transport. Munckhof Taxi B.V. are the bus service provider for academic years 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.

How does the bus service work?

  • Transport is organised in 8-seater mini buses.
  • All drivers are experienced professionals, with appropriate and valid qualifications/certifications to transport children. They speak Dutch and English.
  • Children are picked up in the morning from their home address, and dropped off at school before the school day starts. For the return journey, pick-ups are from outside the school either at 13:30 or 16:30 (or both), depending on the daily schedule. Children are dropped off at their home address.
  • Routes are designed so the journey takes no longer than 75 minutes, depending on the pick-up/drop-off location. Bad traffic situation may affect the overall journey time.

Who can use the bus service?

  • Primary and secondary students of ES Bergen living in Amsterdam and Amstelveen. Nursery school children will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Providing current routes are not negatively affected, other locations may be served on a very exceptional basis and only with the agreement of ESSB and the bus service provider.
  • Please note that a place on the bus cannot be guaranteed and parents who are considering using this service are encouraged to contact ESSB ([email protected]) to check availability first.

 How much does it cost?

  • Current rate for 2023/24 school year: 6,1576.71 EUR including VAT; siblings receive a 2% discount.
  • Payments can be made annually, at the start of the year, or with a down payment in September, followed by nine monthly instalments.
  • Prices are indexed annually.

 How to register?

  • New families interested in the bus service from Amsterdam/Amstelveen should contact the ESSB directly. Please do not contact the school, or the bus service provider. Only the ESSB representatives will be able to advise on the availability of the service, as well as the conditions for any new families.

About the ESSB

The ESSB was set up by a group of families based in Amsterdam to self-organise collective transport to ES Bergen for their children. While we liaise with the school and the school’s Parents’ Association when necessary, we are an independent, KVK-registered body, represented and run by parent-volunteers. The main role of the ESSB is to:

  • Negotiate terms of service with bus service providers, and sign the Master Agreement for transport
  • Assist the bus service provider with route planning
  • Act as the main liaison between the bus service provider and the school on matters of common interest, and between the school, bus service provider and prospective parents.
  • Communicate with the bus service provider on regular basis, requesting changes or providing feedback on the service
  • Communicate with parents on regular basis, providing updates and important information relating to the bus service and, to a limited extent, assisting parents with their individual needs.
  • When needed, address issues between families and the bus service provider that must be escalated and negotiate solutions for issues that have implications on several families.

For more details about the bus service, including transport conditions, pricing and registration, please read our Frequently Asked Questions document. If you have further questions, do not hesitate to contact the ESSB on [email protected]. Please allow a few days for response. The ESSB is run by volunteers in full-time employment and will therefore not always be able to respond immediately. Thank you for your understanding.

On behalf of the ESSB
