On Saturday the 25th of November 2017 girls from ESB went on an annual school trip to participate in the Greenlight for Girls event at the International School in Brussels. It’s an event to “inspire girls of all ages and backgrounds to pursue STEM subjects – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – by introducing them to the world of science in fun and exciting ways!”
The Science teachers would like to thank the Parents Association for funding the bus trip. Without the help of the PA the girls would not have been able to go as a group by bus!
You can see some pictures and a short summary of the day written by one of the Greenlight girls.
On the 25th of November we went to the greenlight event in Brussels taking place in the ISB, the International School of Brussels. Everyone was really nice upon entering: they gave us our lab coat, a pen and a book to write in. The first hour we had an assembly where we listened to the organizer give a speech and present some of the people who would be showing us all about the science, technology and mathematics related things we were going to learn that day. We also got to count how many girls we were. In total, we were about 300 girls!
All the workshops I did were fun, from designing a little robot made from a toothbrush to making slime and learning how to keep your passwords secure online so people can´t hack it. The lunch was also good, there was a choice between pizza and pasta and there was more than enough for everybody.
At the end we had another little assembly where we took a picture of all the girls who had attended. At the end of the day they gave us some gifts from the organizations that had funded the event. We all got a little power bank for our phone or tablet and a digital measuring device where, via an application you can install in your phone, you can see the height and length of a room/house just by taking a picture.
It really is worth attending and I would recommend it to all girls.
